What is a Netbook?
The Netbook is the latest in portable computing technology. Its minimal size is perfect for working on-the-go. Netbooks consume less power, are lower in weight and most importantly lower in price compared to traditional laptops.
2009 will see an enormous 70% growth in netbooks as they take an ever increasing share of the lucrative laptop market. This growth is fuelled not only by the simplicity and price of the product itself but by the ever more extensive ‘mobile enabling’ environment around us. Why carry massive and expensive storage and a raft or applications when accessing the net is becoming easy, inexpensive and available to all? Add to that ‘cloud based' technology which will store all your applications and files so they are accessible from any computer, anywhere at any time and you have a perfect solution to your mobile computing needs.
Why not get a laptop?
With laptops becoming ever more powerful they themselves have taken a huge slice of the pc market. Originally designed for businessmen on the move the laptop’s capability has become so wide ranging that in many instances it has replaced the desktop pc even in many homes. If you want serious storage capability and a wide range of programmes and applications laptops are a good choice. If you want to edit movies and photos and run other complex applications then laptops are essential. However, if you use your pc mainly for surfing the net and basic office application work and if you are on a tight budget then a netbook may be the solution for you. There are already some highly specced machines available with prices from around £200.
